A few days ago Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were revealed at the end of a Pokemon Nintendo Direct showcasing the new Pokken Tournament DX. I know that is a lot, but the important thing is we are getting a new Pokemon game for the 3DS! Yes, not the Switch, despite rumors. An error was made on the Offician Nintendo Press site stating that they were to be released on the Switch. This is not true and they will be 3DS exclusive games. They still look amazing and there are many things to cover in the trailer, so hold on tight!
Overview of the new games
These two new games are re-makes of Sun and Moon. They are held in the same region, and the same islands as Sun and Moon. As you can tell from the images, some things have changed a little bit. For one, route 1 is covered in beautiful blooming flowers.
What other things will make this game different you may ask, well the developers of the game stated that these games will be “featuring Pokemon that did not appear in the original versions”. This could just be referring to new forms, or it could be referring to Gen 8.2. Also, these games will have an “alternate story line” to Sun and Moon. It is probably a continuation of the original story. These games will be focusing heavily on Necrozma, and may also focus on Lycanroc too, seeing on how much attention Pokemon has given him.
Breakdown of the trailer
The trailer starts out by showing us the female and male versions of the character with some new clothing items not available in Sun and Moon. A neat easter egg is that there is a Nintendo Switch by the TV instead of a WiiU. There is a signed picture in the background, but it is of insignificance.
The trainer is then seen running up the new route 1. There are many new flowers blooming on the trail and it looks very happy and beautiful. Something everybody is excited about is the fact that the Wingull seems to follow the trainer up the route as if it was the trainers “pet” Pokemon. A feature that has been wanted by many fans since Heart Gold and Soul Silver is the ability to set a buddy Pokemon to follow you around in the over world. In Sun and Moon, walking animations were found for every single Pokemon in the Pokedex, but the feature was apparently scrapped at the last minute. Could this feature be making a long overdue return in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon?
Our trainer is then seen picking his starter Pokemon. They are the same three starters in Sun and Moon (Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio).
Next we see Pikachus, Pikachus, and more Pikachus. Somebody in this game obviously has an obsession with this lovable little lightning mouse. They even customized their mobile home to look like one. In one of the images we see a trial guide in the background. Could this mean that trials will still be around in this game? Or is this just a retired trial guide who loves Pikachu?
After that we see three different Pokemon (Togedemaru, Lycanroc, and Mimikyu in that order). All these Pokemon are posing or preforming an unusual action. It appears that these Pokemon may be new Totem Pokemon. Lycanroc and Mimikyu could also be preforming an exclusive Z-Move (Togedemaru isn’t doing anything of that sort).
Now we get to the exciting stuff, Solgaleo and Lunalla’s “ultra” forms. These two forms appear to be fusions between the two legendaries and Necrozma. It didn’t get much attention in the original Sun and Moon, so it would make sense that these games are focused around Necrozma and Ultra Beasts (hence the name). How do they transform into this new form? Take a look at what the trailer shows next:
It shows the trainer with a new Z-ring, which is black, and a new type of crystal inside of it. It is not in the normal shape of a Z-crystal, but rather in an unusual compound shape. To make things even stranger, the trainer proceeds to twist it, as seen in the pictures, to unleash it’s powers instead of just touching it. A refrence picture of the original Z-Ring is shown for comparison.
The trailer then goes on to state that there will be many new features in this game that weren’t in the originals, and that the games will be released simultaneously worldwide on November 17, 2017.
When will we get more news!
Corocoro (a Japanese magazine notable for revealing new Pokemon) will come out on the 15th of June, but will probably leak on the 12th or 13th. This is more then likely when we will get our next news announcement. Also, Nintendo’s E3 convention is right around the corner and we are sure to see some new information revealed there as well.
