With the announcement of Generation 2 Pokemon coming to Pokemon GO, the update is starting to be rolled out on IOS and Android devices. Generation 2 Pokemon have now been released! Some more images have surfaced giving us some more information about the new items and mechanics. This page will be updated with any new information we receive.
Some new images have surfaced with new trainer customization options. Here is a list of all the things you are able to customize: Hats, Tops, Bags, Gloves, Bottoms, Socks, Footwear, Hair, Eyes, and Skin.
Images of all the new items have been found in the games code. Along with the two new berries revealed yesterday (see: “FINALLY – The Pokemon GO Update we have all been waiting for“) some new evolution items have been revealed. These evolution items are used along side the required candy, and if a Pokemon requires one of these items it will be shown next to the candy.
Some Pokemon have different appearances depending on their gender. In Pikachu’s case, it’s tail is shaped like a heart if it is female vs having a flat edge if it is a male. In the image you can see a small icon on the right of the screen showing what gender your Pokemon is.
User Interface Differences
With the update there are a few different updates to the menus and other buttons, notable when you are trying the catch a Pokemon. Instead of entering your menu to select Pokeballs and berries, now you can just hit the buttons on-screen to select the item you desire. Also, the evolution button now shows an image of the Pokemon yours will be evolving into. Other changes include the trainer customization screen and the medal screen.
Are shiny Pokemon introduced in this update? At this point we don’t know, Niantic has said nothing about shiny Pokemon in their update information, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t in the game. A shiny Pokemon is just like a normal Pokemon except that the colors have been altered. They are an extremely rare occurrence and are highly prized by collectors. In past games all shiny Pokemon have had at least three IV’s maxed, so maybe in this game they will have at least one maxed. If you have a shiny Pokemon there should be a symbol indicating that it is shiny, presumably a red star as that is what indicates shiny Pokemon in all the other games. Traces of shiny Pokemon have been found in the code, it is just a matter of time until they are released and the first one is found.
Here are some more images that have been released, but didn’t fit into any of the above categories.
